Short Trail Description

The Costa Brava ride to the Wild Coast makes the dream of cantering by the sea come true! On our Spanish horses, we ride through the marvellous hinterland of Catalonia to the sea.

Day 1: Spanien – Costa Brava

Arrival in Barcelona or Girona and short transfer (approx. 30 min. from Girona) to your first accommodation. The pretty country estate dates back to the 16th century. The rooms are tastefully decorated, with views over the surrounding meadows and forests. The unique light transforms the surroundings into a pastel painting. What an ideal place to start your holiday!

Day 2: Costa Brava - "Costa Rica"

Surrounded by dense pine and stone forests and fertile farmlands, secluded paths wind their way through the hills of the Pre-Pyrenees. Our first ride takes us into untouched nature which is home of numerous birds of prey. In splendid canters, we arrive at Galliners and Orfes, two stone-built villages from the Middle Ages.

In the wetlands of the River Fluvia, bamboo, lianas and creepers grow. The atmosphere reminds of the tropical "Costa Rica"! After a delicious picnic, we ride to an old mill by the river, with its South American ambience.

Day 3: Costa Brava - Gulf of Roses (*)

Through the beautiful hinterland of the Costa Brava we ride towards the sea. The thick forests flow out over the mountains, merge with the plains and lead us to the Gulf of Roses. On a fresh water lake, we make picnic and go swimming. Then we follow the River Fluvia. Near the mouth of the river, we discover Miguel’s cosy country house by the sea. A palm tree shows us the way to the horse pasture. Miguel is an excellent cook and will surprise us with his Mediterranean dishes.

Day 4: Sun, sea and beach - Vamos a la playa! (*)

The noise of the waves excites us. The smell of the coast, the wind, and the salty air - we are with our horses by the sea! A dream comes true - before us stretches a kilometre-long sandy beach. With the sunrise, we canter through the surf. On a sandbank, our horses play with the waves. Over fruit plants we finally return to our country house by the sea. If you're lucky, you can enjoy a delicious lunch at Miguel before departure (not included). In the early afternoon, our stay at the sea ends and we are transferred to Girona or Barcelona by transfer service.

Character

With steady and quiet conditions, these rides are through forests and meadows and along paved paths through stone villages with spectacular river crossings. Canters along a sandy beach and panoramic views along the Wild Coast are hard to beat. These are the ingredients of the Costa Brava Ride! The Costa Brava Beach and Discovery Trail is ridden at all gaits, so it is recommended that you know how to connect with your four-legged partner. It is also perfect for experienced riders who usually just train in the arena and would be interested to experience trail rides. Our sure-footed horses provide the necessary security in this varied terrain. Every day you will spend 3-6 hours in the saddle.

Transfers & Caterings

Notice

  • First day: on arrival dinner is at approx. 9 p.m.
  • Last day: before departure breakfast is at approx. 9 a.m. (lunch on demand, + 20€)
  • Due to local conditions, a route change or amendment may be necessary.
  • The Costa Brava Ride can be ridden in both directions.
  • The tour operator reserves the right to substitute the described accommodations by equivalent if necessary.

Accommodation

Single Room / Double Room / "Half Double Room"

Single rooms cannot always be guaranteed though booked. If a previously confirmed single room is not available, the guest is entitled to a refund of the price paid for those nights surcharge.

Single travellers have the option to book a "Half Double Room".

Half double rooms for bookings 60 days prior to departure can only be booked, if at that time a same-gender customer is also waiting for a roommate. If this is not the case, we will book a single room with the regular, advertised surcharge.

Transfer

Airport Barcelona
  • Collective group transfer at 5:30 p.m., meeting point at the airport is in Terminal T1 in front of the Café TRAMOYA at the Group Meeting Point North located opposite from the "Oficina de Turisme" (after customs on the right).
  • Please Note! If you arrive at Terminal T2 all five minutes a free shuttle bus brings you to Terminal T1!

  • Please book your flight on the day of departure from 2:30 p.m. onwards!


Airport Girona
  • Collective group transfer at 6:30 p.m. The meeting point at the airport is in front of Café CAFFRICCIO in the arrivals hall.
  • Please book your flight on the day of departure from 1:00 p.m. onwards!

If the arranged transfer times do not fit with your arrival and departure times, we would be happy to organize a taxi for you (about €80-€120 from Girona, €240-€280 from Barcelona, depending on the trail start/end points). Other arrival and departure destinations provided on request.

Please Note: The transfer times can vary depending on flight arrival times/delays from other guests/traffic etc. Please be patient in these cases!

All trail itineraries are general guidelines and in order to offer our customers the best riding holiday experience we make occasional changes.

Depending on the number of concurrent trails, the season, the weather and national holidays, we may make alterations to itineraries at short-notice, which could affect the number of riding hours per day, the route we take to any given destination or the use of alternative accommodation. Trails can also be ridden in both directions. All changes are at our discretion but when changes are made, we endeavour to ensure that our high standards of quality are maintained and reflected in the alternatives we choose.

(*) It is specified in the Coastal Law (Law 22/1988, of 28 July) and the regulations surrounding it (Royal Decree 1471/1989, of 1 December), that excursions operated in places of maritime public domain should not be for profit. We would like to advise that we do not charge for riding on any beach and therefore that part of any ride is free of charge.

Fantastic horses, delicious food, beautiful accommodation and deserted beaches – this is how you ca summarize our Costa Brava Ride. I can recommend this trail to everyone who needs a short break. It is fascinating how natural und pristine the Costa Brava is. On horseback you can also reach remote places.

My highlights were the beach canters. Our guide has safely let the group even at good speed. We enjoyed it just as much as the horses did!

December is a great travel time. You can get away from the cold winter and enjoy the tranquility in Catalonia – and, of course, the superb food!

Thank you for this unforgettable holiday! I will certainly return for a longer trail!

Many thanks for the great holiday and ridings at the Beach and discovery ride last week with Albert!

It all was soooo nice!!! J I came back to home to Finland yesterday evening and I'm still in a very euphoric feelings! Probably will stay in this mood with the good feelings for quite a long time now J…despite the cold weather here in Finland. I just have to look at the pictures I took at the trail last week … and I'm all smile & happy and relaxed again! J

All your arrangements, accommodation, food, dinners and your horses are just great & superb! I can't think of anything that I could have wished to have more!

Hi Rudi!

Thank you so much for a wonderful riding trail! We had a great time with lots of laughs. The horses, the nature, your organization, your guiding skills, the food and last but not the least all the vino tinto and cava ;) - everything was amazing!

Bogi and his wife were very accommodating and have a beautiful home full of character.
