The Horizon Trail is an enjoyable adventure for those looking to take in the stunning scenery of the Costa Brava while keeping the riding days relaxed.

On well-selected paths, we ride to the Cap de Creus, the easternmost point of Spain. Like a karstic dorsal fin the Pyrenees sink into the sea. Fantastic views over the rugged coastline of Cap de Creus, a visit and overnight stay at the oldest Andalusian stud (P.R.E. – Pura Raza Española) in Catalonia, and probably the most beautiful fishing villages on the Costa Brava, such as Cadaqués and Port de la Selva, transform this programme into a pleasure trail for ambitious riders.

Day 1: Horizon Trail: Ride and experience Spain!

Arrival in Barcelona or Girona and transfer to our first accommodation, a typical Catalan stone house. The tranquil location in the beautiful Catalonian countryside invites us to relax. At dinner, we meet our new "riding friends" and our tour guide.

Day 2: The lovely hinterland of the Wild Coast

We depart from the Panorama-Trails stables on our four-legged companions. Over fields and through dense forests our horses carry us reliably into the lonely outback of the Wild Coast. In this beautiful setting a soothing calm and peacefulness surrounds us and we discover hidden natural stone villages. In a good mood, we arrive at an old oil mill that has an enchanting charm. A hearty meal has already been prepared for us. With every bite of the delicious tapas and every sip of the fine oils we are allowed to taste, we immerse ourselves deeper into the flavors of this unique region.

Well rested, we ride to our accommodation in the afternoon. After caring for our faithful horses, we round off the day with another tasty dinner.

Day 3: P.R.E. Andalusian Stud Farm

This morning the River Fluvià accompanies us towards the sea. At some points we cross the river safely and pass through beautiful Catalan villages on horseback with resounding hoof clatter. Under old cork trees our trail assistant has already laid the table for lunch! What a magnificent place to enjoy the delights!

Strengthened, we get back on the road. In the afternoon, surrounded by rice fields, we arrive at our impressive home for the night.

The oldest P.R.E. Stud of Catalonia (P.R.E. = Pure Spanish Breed).

At the stud, the friendly owner proudly presents his horses and we learn many interesting facts about the history of the P.R.E. horse. And who knows, maybe you will find your dream horse here!

Day 4: The Plains of the Empordà

We leave the Stud Farm through the rice fields and ride across the plainof Empordà to Castelló de Empúries with its mighty cathedral.

We cross the northern marsh area of the Aiguamolls with its diverse birdlife. The Mediterranean Pyrenees frame the vast plain like an amphitheatre.

Near Roses, a luxurious house with a swimming pool and spa offers us a pleasant place to stay.

Day 5: Cap de Creus

Like mountain goats, our "Andalusians" climb into the mountainous Cap de Creus. High up on the pass we will be rewarded with breath-taking panoramic views: the Gulf of Roses stretches out to the south, while the Golf del Lleó lies to the north.

As we ride along, herbs and flowers line the path, and occasional cork oak groves add a touch of Mediterranean charm. We then descend into a peaceful valley framed by rolling hills. Soon, we pass through a picturesque village, its winding alleys and traditional houses transporting us back in time. Here, a delicious lunch awaits at a popular restaurant known for its warm hospitality.

After this refreshing break, we continue through the stunning landscapes of the nature park, eventually arriving at the bustling fishing village of Port de la Selva. Our accommodation for the night is an elegant hotel.

The afternoon is free for us to explore — whether relaxing on the beach or wandering through the village’s charming streets.

Day 6: The magical land of the Wild Coast

An old trade route winds through rocky terrain in the Natural Park of Cap de Creus.

This is where the last foothills of the Pyrenees sink into the electric-blue sea.

The vivid colours of the sky and sea, the eroded rock formations and the bright bays with their deep canyons immerse us in a bizarre coastal landscape.

In a beautiful bay we have a picnic and go for a swim - what paradise!

We spend our last night at Cadaqués, a jewel of the Costa Brava. The whitewashed fishing village, with its old, winding streets is justly considered the most beautiful village on the Wild Coast.

The best "Paella" in the village completes our last evening of the eventful journey.

Day 7: Hasta la vista!

Transfer to Barcelona or Girona or extension to another trail.

The Horizon Trail is the ideal program for trail connoisseurs who do not want to miss the spectacular scenery of the Costa Brava, but with relaxed riding days. The balanced and quite pleasant riding days also offer ideal conditions for less experienced riders. The varied trail connects the lovely countryside of the Catalonian hinterland with the Wild Coast. The modest pace and the slightly shorter riding days do not require an above average physical condition. Daily riding time between 3-5 hours a day, one day 2 hours.

First day: on arrival dinner is at approx. 9 p.m.
Last day: before departure breakfast is at approx. 9 a.m.
Due to local conditions, a route change or amendment may be necessary.
The Horizon Trail can be ridden in both directions.
The tour operator reserves the right to substitute the described accommodations by equivalent if necessary.

Accommodation

Single Room / Double Room / Shared Double Room

Single rooms cannot always be guaranteed though booked. If a previously confirmed single room is not available, the guest is entitled to a refund of the price paid for those nights surcharge.

Single travellers have the option to book a Shared Double Room.

A shared double room can only be booked by solo travellers if a same-gender roommate is available at the time of booking or becomes available before the start of the trail. If this is not the case, we will book a single room for you which will be charged at the standard, published supplement fee.

Transfer

Airport Barcelona

Collective group transfer at 5:30 p.m., meeting point at the airport is in Terminal T1 in front of the Café TABERNNUS at the Group Meeting Point North located opposite from the "Oficina de Turisme" (after customs on the right).
Please Note! If you arrive at Terminal T2 all five minutes a free shuttle bus brings you to Terminal T1!
Please book your flight on the day of departure from 2:30 p.m. onwards!

Airport Girona

Collective group transfer at 6:30 p.m. The meeting point at the airport is in front of Café LAVAZZA in the arrivals hall.
Please book your flight on the day of departure from 1:00 p.m. onwards!

If the arranged transfer times do not fit with your arrival and departure times, we would be happy to organize a taxi for you (about €80-€120 from Girona, €240-€280 from Barcelona, depending on the trail start/end points). Other arrival and departure destinations provided on request.

Please Note: The transfer times can vary depending on flight arrival times/delays from other guests/traffic etc. Please be patient in these cases!

All trail itineraries are general guidelines and in order to offer our customers the best riding holiday experience we make occasional changes.

Depending on the number of concurrent trails, the season, the weather and national holidays, we may make alterations to itineraries at short-notice, which could affect the number of riding hours per day, the route we take to any given destination or the use of alternative accommodation. Trails can also be ridden in both directions. All changes are at our discretion but when changes are made, we endeavour to ensure that our high standards of quality are maintained and reflected in the alternatives we choose.
