Extended Trail Route

Fresh & Saltwater - Mountain & Sea Trail 2 (north to south)

Day 1: Costa Brava

Arrival in Barcelona or Girona and transfer to our starting point, a cozy family-run hotel near the Mediterranean Sea. At dinner, we meet our guide who explains everything about the trail ride and the next few days.

Day 2: Riding to the sea

The horses are already eagerly awaiting us in a field near the hotel. We set off for the coast. The view of the turquoise-blue shimmering Mediterranean Sea is magnificent. In a picturesque bay of the Wild Coast, we reach the beach, bathe in fresh sea water and taste the salt on our skin!

After the lunch break, our Andalusians brilliantly master the coastal mountains of Rodas. Here, the Pyrenees submerge into the sea. We make our way out of the mountains into the flat hinterland, an ancient cultural landscape consisting of olive trees and vineyards. The light is impressive with this fascinating scenery. Satisfied with the impressions of the first day, we approach a winery village where we spend the night in a former farmhouse. The tasteful furnishings and the lovely patio provide a beautiful ambience.

Day 3: Ice river “La Muga“

In the morning, we ride down to the "ice stream" La Muga. The fresh water invites us to stop for a swim. With its extremely cold temperature, it is a welcome refreshment from the heat. The bubbling waterfall also provides a wonderful setting for our picnic lunch.

We follow the cool stream at a lively pace. We leave La Muga behind. Highly motivated, our faithful four-legged friends take us higher into the mountains again. We spend the night in an impressive former monastery where a guesthouse was built more than 300 years ago.

Day 4: Swimming with the horses

Today, we want to swim in the lake! We wander through the beautiful Mediterranean mountain landscape. The cork oak forests spread a silvery shimmering light. Soon we have reached the swimming place and a dream comes true. We swim with the horses!

After a picnic and a siesta, we ride back to the monastery situated on a small hill. The view over the lake is magnificent.

Day 5: Trail ride into the Pyrenees

This morning, we start early! With the first sunlight, we dive deep into a shady mixed forest at the Catalan foothills of the Pyrenees. Our Spanish horses steadily and confidently climb over a pass, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the towering Pyrenean peaks.

In a secluded valley, a small mountain stream gently babbles. It is time for a swim! A leap into the glistening pool refreshes us, and afterward, the sun-warmed rocks, heated by the Mediterranean sun, provide the perfect spot to dry off. An ideal picnic place!

In the afternoon, we leave the shady forest behind. Picking up the pace, we continue our ride and eventually reach a medieval village that has served as a backdrop for historical films. We end the evening with a delicious meal at a local restaurant.

Day 6: Welcome to the Catalan jungle

On the last day, our horses head home! We ride along solitary trails through dense holm oak and pine forests, surrounded by a calming silence. Deep in the woods, we come across tropical vegetation reminiscent of a jungle—almost like a scene from Costa Rica. Our lunch spot is a hidden waterfall. We take a refreshing dip in the cool water before enjoying our picnic and siesta.

We saddle up our loyal Andalusians once more. At a lively pace, we make our way back to the Panorama-Trails riding center, where our horses are eagerly awaited by their friends.

For our final night, we settle into a cozy rural stone house. Over a delicious meal and a glass of good wine, we reflect on the unforgettable moments of this incredible trail.

Day 7: ¡Hasta la vista Catalonia!

After breakfast, transfer to the airports or continue to another trail.

Bandit Trail Version 2

Day 1: Spain/Catalonia - Barcelona, Girona

A collective transfer takes us to our first accommodation. In the heart of the high plateau lies Jordi's private and cosy horse farm. We only hear the wind in the trees, the singing of the cicadas and the babbling of the stream. The horses graze peacefully in the pasture right next to the house. During dinner we meet our guide and chat about the upcoming riding tour.

Day 2: High plateau

In the morning we meet our four-legged companions for the next few days. The horses are saddled and off we go! We ride up to a high plateau with spectacular views. Here north and south, Mediterranean and high mountains merge in a very special way. Lush meadows and dense beech forests cover the land. Ferns spread out, the primeval forest proliferates and appears impenetrable. The temperatures are pleasantly cool, many springs and quiet streams refresh us on our way.

Today's destination is the cliffs of the Table Mountains. Like an eagle's nest, a small village lies majestically on the edge of the mountain. Below us, the Canyon Lake glows in deep green. We spend two nights in this idyllic place.

Day 3: Panorama of the Table Mountains

Today we make our way adventurously through an ancient beech forest like bandits. The horses master every challenge with surefootedness. While our four-legged companions graze peacefully next to a herd of cattle, we discover a rock with a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire Table Mountains - the home of Serrallonga! Here we enjoy a saddle bag picnic.

Well rested, we then begin the descent. Spectacular rock formations accompany us on the way back to the remote village. From the terrace of our accommodation, we look out over the horse pasture during dinner. Another unforgettable trail day comes to an end.

Day 4: Canyons and table mountains

We start the day with a spectacular view! While the horses balance along the steep cliffs, vultures swoop down overhead. What an experience! We descend over lush pastures into the valleys between the mighty Table Mountains. In the midst of this fascinating mountain world, we discover a lonely chapel where a delicious lunch awaits us.

After the relaxing break, our faithful four-legged friends carry us through canyons, much like in Arizona, passing waterfalls that plunge steeply into dark gorges. We hear the cries of large birds of prey soaring above towering rock formations. The evergreen and humid forest we cross used to be the outlaws' hideout. A majestic monastery rises at the highest point of the Table Mountain. This is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Catalonia. We are allowed to spend the night here and are woken up the next morning with the sun rising over the sea!

Day 5: Garrotxa, land of volcanoes

Brilliantly, our Andalusians climb through an overwhelming landscape. In spring and summer, grey rocky mountains wink through the deep green beech forest, in golden autumn the forest glows in all colours - "Indian Summer", the ambience is reminiscent of Canada. Open cattle pastures give us great views over valleys and mountains. We descend further into the valley. A nice bar invites you to have lunch in a typical Catalan village. The village fountain gurgles and plane trees provide pleasant shade.

In the afternoon, we continue our ride through the million-year-old volcanic landscape of Garrotxa. The earth now turns ochre-brown and black. The dark lava rock contrasts with the bright green deciduous forests of this area. Eventually, we arrive in a medieval village. Our cosy accommodation is right on the market square.

Day 6: Besalú - A pearl from the Middle Ages

We dive deeper and deeper into the land of volcanoes. A landscape that is sweetly cultivated, but at the same time entices us with its wildness. The extinct volcanoes lie there as if they want to rest until the end of time. The most recent eruption was a few thousand years ago. Only the black lava and a few volcanic craters remind us of the fireworks of days gone by.

We leave the volcanoes behind us and climb down into a valley. The horses refresh themselves in the fresh water of the river Fluvia right next to a picturesque Roman bridge. It leads to the medieval town of Besalú. This is also where our accommodation is located, where a delicious lunch is already waiting for us.

In the afternoon, we have time to explore the narrow streets and small shops of the village. We look forward to dinner in a cosy restaurant right on the Plaza Mayor.

Day 7: Off to Costa Rica

In the morning, wide paths invite us to trot and canter. The route climbs steeply until we have an impressive view of the Fluvia river flowing far below us. We approach the picnic area at a brisk pace. The forest around us becomes denser. The branches hang lower and lower. We dismount and lead the horses through the Catalan jungle. At a hidden waterfall, we have a delicious lunch from our saddlebags. We feel as if we are in Costa Rica!

After a relaxing siesta, we continue on. The trail winds its way through enchanted forests. Holm oaks and pines are the dominant trees. The horses enjoy a long canter. Happy and satisfied, we reach the Panorama-Trails riding centre and say goodbye to our faithful companions. A transfer takes us to a beautiful Catalan country house. Our host is already eagerly awaiting us. This secluded place is a wonderful paradise to relax in! We reminisce about the week's experiences over a final dinner together.

Day 8: Adiós y hasta la vista!

After breakfast transfer to the airports or extension to one of the coastal trails.

Mediterranean Trail "turn left" (counter-clockwise)

Day 1: Riding Centre Catalonia: experience Spain on horseback!

Arrival in Spain (Barcelona or Girona) and transfer to our first accommodation, a gorgeous country house which enchants us with its unique character. The well-kept garden is a paradise to relax in. What a beautiful place to begin your holiday in Spain!

Day 2: Catalonia

We pass through dense holm oak forests and leave the Panorama Trails riding centre heading south. Passing peaceful farming villages, our route winds its lonely way through the hilly landscape of the Empordà. The shady forest paths of the Mediterranean pine forest are perfect for long gallops. At a brisk pace, we reach a pretty village at the foot of the Gavarra mountains.

The horses spend the night opposite a charming country house, where we are served a Catalan picnic. In the afternoon, we enjoy some time off in the beautiful garden and look forward to a delicious dinner.

Day 3: Lonely forests and medieval villages

Today we are enchanted by the unspoilt landscape of Catalonia. Shades of yellow, brown and green characterise the landscape. Centuries-old villages spread as far as we can see! We listen to the clatter of hooves on the old cobblestones as we ride through the narrow winding streets of the authentic natural stone villages. On a hidden hill with a spectacular view over the Empordà plain, we reinvigorate ourselves with a delicious picnic lunch.

Well rested, we approach what is probably the most beautiful town on the Costa Brava - Peratallada. An old town wall surrounds the lovingly interlocking stone houses. On the patterned cobblestones of the narrow streets, we can still recognise the scratches of the horse-drawn carriages of days gone by. In this ambience, the friendly landlady presents us with her cosy accommodation. A stroll through the village in the balmy evening atmosphere brings the day to a peaceful close.

Day 4: Spain, sun, beach, and the sea (*)

Right at the start of the riding day, we pass another "pearl" of the Catalonian coast - Palau Sator. The ride then takes us through the rice fields to the mighty natural stone village of Pals. The name Pals comes from the Latin "palus" and means marshland. This indicates that the area around Pals was surrounded by lakes and marshes a long time ago. Craftsmen and artists offer their goods, and we stop for lunch in a village restaurant.

In the shade of the Mediterranean pine forests, soft sandy paths invite us to trot and canter. A highlight awaits us at the end of the day. The beach of Pals with the protected "Medes" islands in the background! An unforgettable sight!

Day 5: Vamos a la playa! Discover the Mediterranean Sea! (*)

Another varied day begins. In a good mood, we immerse ourselves in the tranquillity of the continental sand dunes. We continue with the steep ascent to the rugged Montgri massif and are rewarded! A fantastic view over the endless expanse of the Mediterranean awaits us! Seabirds glide in the currents over the coast. We have a delicious picnic surrounded by the scent of lavender, rosemary and thyme.

During a long canter, we cross the high plateau of the coastal mountain range and dive under the canopy of Mediterranean pines, pleasantly shaded, towards the sea. Kilometres of sandy beach lie before us. The water splashes, the sand flies, we ride off into the sunset. The horses play with the waves and we try to stay dry. In the centre of the bay, the river Fluvia flows into the sea. It leads us to a cosy country house. We round off the ride with a drink on the terrace. Those who want to can refresh themselves in the pool before dinner.

Day 6: „El Fluvià“ – River Trail

The river Fluvia winds itself through the countryside. We follow it inland and ride through a wild meadow landscape. On a hill, we enjoy a tasty picnic in the sunshine. Then it is time for a siesta!

In the afternoon, the trail continues along the river for a while before leading us back to our riding centre through forests, meadows and pretty natural stone villages. We round off the trip with a cool drink and look forward to a farewell dinner together.

Day 7: Hasta la vista, Catalonia!
