Recommendation

Girona has a fascinating old town. Its cathedral has the largest free-standing dome in the world. Also, a tour on the city wall is worthwhile!

Trail Route

Day 1: Riding Centre Catalonia: experience Spain on horseback!

Arrival in Spain (Barcelona or Girona) and transfer to our first accommodation, a typical Catalan rustic stone house dating back to the 16th century. From here you overlook green meadows and forests. The unique light transforms the surroundings into a picturesque painting. What a beautiful place to begin your holiday in Spain.

Day 2: Spain like Costa Rica

We ride through thick oak and pine forests and leave the village towards the mountains. In a hidden valley, we cross a small stream. Some sun rays pierce the deep green of a tropical-looking jungle. Bamboo trees border the path, and high up creepers and vines grow around the trees. We are in Spain, but the atmosphere reminds us of Costa Rica.

The River Fluvia winds through a hilly terrain. We ride through the lovely river valleys and discover a nice place for our first picnic. In the afternoon, we continue on our way trotting and cantering, until we arrive at a beautiful old mill near to the river; our accommodation for the night. The South American-looking garden is a wonderful, relaxing paradise! In this romantic place, we and our well-trained four-legged friends find a unique place for the night.

Day 3: Wild Coast - Costa Brava

The River Fluvia winds its way through the country to the sea. On a small lake, a friendly Catalan named Dani welcomes us with a glass of cava, the Catalan champagne, and a mid day table prepared with love.

After lunch, we follow the river Fluvia. We cross the river and ride through a wild river landscape. At its estuary, we have a spectacular view of the Gulf of Roses. We are at the Mediterranean Sea in Spain!

A palm grove leads us to the cosy country house "Mas Joncar". With a drink on the terrace we let the day end. If you want to, you can have a refreshing bath in the "natural stone pool" before dinner.

Day 4: Vamos a la playa! Discover the Mediterranean Sea! (*)

With the sunrise, we see a kilometre-long sandy beach. A dream comes true: Riding in Spain, riding by the sea! The water splashes, the sand flies, we canter along the surf. The horses play with the waves and we try to stay dry. The canter along the beach is an unforgettable experience!

The path gently follows through the continental sand dunes and the Mediterranean pine forest up to the rugged mountain massif Montgri. On top of the cliff, we are rewarded with a fantastic view of the endless sea. Seabirds glide over the coast in the wind. In the scent of lavender, rosemary, and thyme we strengthen ourselves with a delicious saddle bag picnic.

Later we descend into the plain of the River Ter. With long canters through the river dykes we reach again the Mediterranean Sea. We can enjoy the sunset at the beach or in the swimming pool of the hotel.

Day 5: Spain, sun, beach, and the sea (*)

Right after breakfast we are back at the beach! In front of us we see the protected islands of "Medes". A canter through the soft sand of the bay brings us into the rice fields of the wide plain, up to the pine trees near the coast. We pass the pearls of the Catalan coast: Pals, Palau-Sator and Peretallada. Old city walls surround the nested rustic stone houses. On the patterned paving stones of the narrow streets, we can still see the grooves and bursts of the horse-drawn carts of the past days. In this medieval atmosphere, Dolores and Luis await us at their comfortable accommodation. In the evening, the householders offer a delicious barbecue with meat and vegetables from the garden.

Day 6: Catalonia

The terrain is flat, the ground soft and sandy. At a fast pace, our well-trained horses trot and canter to the river "El Ter". Fruit plantations alternate with grain fields and deep green poplar forests which give us the necessary shade. On a romantic hillside, next to a small church, we see a red-and-white tablecloth shining. We look forward to another, delicious picnic from Dani.

After a siesta, we ride though a softly curved hillside landscape back to our horse farm.

Day 7: Hasta la vista, Catalonia!

Transfer to Barcelona or Girona or extension to another trail.

Important! As a round trail, we mostly ride the Mediterranean Trail clockwise. Under the Mediterranean Trail turn left (counter-clockwise) you will find the detailed trail description. We reserve possible deviations from the program.

February 2020

We were on the Mediterranea Trail in February 2020 and since then we are looking forward to the next tour with Panorama-Trails. With Corinna and Louis we had two very friendly, always good-humoured and competent guides, who also had challenging situations well under control. We had great luck with our group. We became a very harmonious group and could enjoy this wonderful trail together to the full. The excellent picnic and dinner contributed to this as well as the lovingly selected, partly rustic Catalan accommodations. The trail itself is very varied and leads along riverbanks, sea beaches, forests, meadows and through typical Catalonian villages. Our horses have fitted very well to us, are well maintained and can fell that they are loved and well cared. We would like to thank the whole team for organizing and carrying out this beautiful trail. Also a big thank you to the other participants, who made this tour a unique and interesting experience. And last but not least thanks to the spring sun, which already spoiled us in February. We will come back with pleasure!

Don't miss this! For me it was the first trail of several days and I can only say: I enjoyed every minute. Our two guides not only had the right feeling for which horses would suit which riders, they also masterfully organized the catering, led us through beautiful landscapes and also provided good entertainment and a great atmosphere during the breaks. So it became one of those journeys from which strangers become friends. Dear Panorama Trails team, keep up the good work. I am already looking forward to seeing you again.

Very professional guide and well-trained horses! Me and my daughter went for the Mediterranean Trail. Be in good condition and a good rider for this one! The guide, Corinna, was a very good guide. Strong leadership and a really coordinator and service minded. We were 9 riders on the trail. A had a young very well-trained horse, Bandolero. He was sensitive, following my instructions and much energy. My daughter had Fenix - such a sweetheart! Both horses were forward going and fun to ride. But see to that you are a good listener for the horse’s needs. They are all individuals and have their different personalities! We did everything on the trail that you can think of - rivers, beach, mountains, up-down, bridges, traffic, forests, countryside, fields... trot, cantering, galloping. (appr 6-8 hours a day in the saddle). Good team, good food, good accommodations. Bring good clothing for different weather and sun screen! :-)

One of my best trails! Thanks to Corinna (you are such a pro! both with horses and people) and to Panorama Trails. And thanks, Bandolero a very reliable, well-trained horse with a young baby heart! Rudi - Take care of Corinna, she is one of the best!

THANK YOU for this unforgettable, great experience. This was my first ride with Panorama-Trails, but already on the journey back home it was clear that it was not my last. Nacho, our guide, led our group and the horses with such devotion and so much heart and soul !! We felt safe thanks to him and the great horses at all time. Already on the first day my horse Caspar and I were a team. I could trust him with every step and rely on him. You can feel that the horses are very important for the organization and the guides. They are optimally cared for and treated and do an outstanding job day after day. In fact, the whole trail was perfectly organized. From the first email contact with Daniela to the hoof scraper.

The transfer from the airport worked out perfectly, the accommodations were all cozy, clean and welcoming, the horses a absolute dream, Nacho just superb and the picnics of Manel and Carlos made with a lot of contagious joy. They were not responsible for the weather, but it was perfect for March. One day we even rode in a T-shirt, at the others the sun was shining and one morning it was raining, which gave the whole thing even more adventure and yes, absolutely fun. The Spanish wine for lunch and dinner was also a highlight. After the horses were taken care of, we treated ourselves to a beer in a cozy round, talked about the wonderful day and listened eagerly to the exciting stories of Nacho. Again a big thank you to ALL for these unforgettable 6 days and best wishes to the team.

November 2018

This was my 10th trail with Panorama-Trails, and as always, I've fallen in love with my horse, a snow-white Andalusian gelding - forward going, but easy to handle :)

Our accommodation was nice, and the weather was pretty good too considering it was November! We could even ride in t-shirts for a while!! As expected, the food was amazing: the picnics at lunch time as well as the 3-course meals in the evenings. Of course, it went down well with a glass of wine, or two... :) As always, it was a fantastic week. Thank you very much to the whole team, especially to our trail guide Corinna and to my horse Feriol!!!

Warm regards,

Martina

September 2018

A beautiful and unforgettable holiday!!! First class in every way!

Our high expectations were exceeded by far for our first long-awaited trail riding holiday. Everything was very well and lovingly organized. Rudi and his team are just great!

We felt very safe on our picturesque route through beautiful Catalonia with our trail guide Corinna and she treated us with warmth and humor and acted with great competency. Also to be noted was the care for the horses, which was evident from the start. Valent and Bandolero, our horses for the week, were great! Balanced, uncomplicated and both so lovable in their own way that we would have liked to put them in our suitcase! :) We felt totally safe on them and enjoyed every day.

The trail itself, in our opinion, was very suitable as an introduction to trail riding in all its facets, as there is a bit of everything on the trails: river crossings, forests, fields, mountainous terrain, quaint Spanish villages, beach and sea. We loved when our guide said "Vamos Galoppe! - the trail was often very fast, which was a lot of fun and added variety.

We were well catered for during the breaks, whilst the horses got a rest and something to eat. So, we both continued well-nourished to carry on further into our adventure. In the evenings we stayed at beautiful and cosy accommodation and enjoyed the delicious local food (and wine). Each guesthouse we stayed at had its own authentic and rustic charm.

Our group was great too. We were a sociable, funny group and we all felt very close. It was difficult to say farewell to the other riders, as well as to the horses, after this eventful and beautiful week.

We would like to thank Panorama-Trails for this wonderful adventure that we were able to experience, and we can say “we will definitely be back”!

Best regards,

Mareile and Lena

I had a wonderful holiday riding the Mediterranean Trail. Each day brought a new adventure and the opportunity to enjoy the Catalan countryside aboard safe, well cared for horses.

Our guide Nacho and his assistant super Dani made the experience even more enjoyable, both are wonderful horsemen and a pleasure to be around. Nacho expertly matched riders to their mounts and despite the trails fast pace (~100 mikes in 5 days) there was never a time that I felt unsafe. Dani was a logistics genius always keeping one step ahead of us to ensure the horses night time accommodation were ready, our lunch picnics were flawless, and ensuring our luggage made it from point to point every day.

Riders should be prepared for long trots and canters every day on this ride, you will be rewarded with beautiful scenery that varies every day (bamboo lined paths, river crossings, pine forests, rice fields, mountains & beaches!), the ability to ride through many small villages, and delicious food and wine.

I went on this tour as a solo rider, but I have happily come away from the experience with a great group of new friends. I don't often return to the same location for holidays, but for Panorama Trails I will gladly make an exception.

The Mediterranean Trail ride was all I thought it would be and more. This was my first time taking a horseback holiday and Panorama Trails will be my forever vacation outfitter in Spain. The Mediterranean Trail ride is a 5 day roughly 100-mile loop through the Catalonia region of Spain. Nacho, our guide is an exceptional horseman and teacher who emphasizes safety and fun. He has a great personality and makes sure that each rider is matched to the horse that suits their ability for the ride. I've ridden my entire life and the horse Nacho selected for me was the perfect match.

The Panorama Trails support team was amazing too. Dani, Nacho's trail assistant was friendly and really a jack of all trades from moving our luggage, staging our lunch stops, helping with horses, and staging our horse layover locations was a logistical marvel.

Rudi, the owner of the company was also immediately responsive to our needs. One of my trail mates felt her horse was a bit too forward for her by the end of the day Rudi personally delivered a more suitable horse at our hotel location.

Again, I can't say enough great things about this company and I will definitely be back for the Wild Coast Pirates Trail, Fresh and Salt Water Trail, and the Mountain and Coast Outlaw Trail. The food, accommodations, horses, and staff are all top notch.

Thanks for another great trail in this wonderful area of Catalonia. We were 11 riders from seven countries led by our excellent guide Anaïs. We had long gallops and a lot of trotting, the horses were very fit and did not seem to show fatigue. And of course being served good food! Thanks to Danny and Jose for providing good service at all levels. Breakfast usually at 09:00 and we rode most of the day turning in the horses usually at six o'clock. For those who do not have any plans in the X-mas of 2016 this trail is an excellent alternative! Ride safe!

I had a amazing time during this absolutely fabulous trail!

I was the "green one" in the group but every thing exceeded my expectations and I had a blast! Horses were so well trained and sweet, international group was funny and helpful, and of course the trail it self was the most beautiful with changing landscape from poppy fields to seaside and everything between. Most important thing for the successful trail was our great guide Nacho, who made us feel safe by showing great horsemanship and knowledge of human nature :) I really lived my dream!

I'm sure to attend next year again!

Hi Panorama-trails!

I want to thank you for my second perfect ride with you.
Last time i was sad when i went home, i had then no plan to go back " a perfect weekand to have that again very hard, better have it as a good memory and go somewhere else" .
But then i decided to give it one more chance and if next trip was half as good as the first one i would be plaesed.
And it was equal not the same and that was good.
You have really created a unique ridingtour company.
And one thing that so many need today and hard to find is things to do there you can de-stress, after a week with you the brain is totally empty and you have so much new energi.

This time when i went home i was not sad i was happy have i done this two times i can do it again and again and again!

So for 99.99% chance you will meet me again next year probably one of the mountainrides.

So BIG BIG BIG thanks for my two rides with you and your guides and assistent are so nice they really want you to have a great week and horse wow!!!

Best regards!

Greetings from Canada! My friend and I had the time of our lives when we went on the Mediterranean Trail in early May of this year. I had the perfect horse (I'm sure she would argue and say hers was the best), and our personalities matched very well. On the way back to the airport, we were trying to calculate the cost of purchasing our mounts and having them shipped back to Canada (haha). It was my first experience riding in another country, and I can say that I will never travel without a horse again! The views were astounding and I still look at pictures and videos from the trip with a fond nostalgia. During the final breakfast, every person on the ride agreed with enthusiasm that they would love to have another week with your fabulous horses. I would like to thank you for your excellent staff and ride guides, who are nothing but the best, and I hope this isn't the last time we meet.

I recently had the pleasure to ride on the Mediterranean Trail Ride and I can easily say that it was one of the greatest experiences of my life -- I loved the whole thing. The horses were incredible and Rudi did an amazing job of matching horses and riders. The trails and landscapes were stunning and the organization of the whole 6 days was nothing short of fabulous. I want to put out a very special "Thanks" to a very special person -- Jordi -- who was the trail leader and he was not only a fearless and completely capable leader, he was a total delight to spend the week with and never tired of all of our endless questions and chit-chat. He was a very good sport! Thank you all so very much and I look forward to my return,

Once again a thousand thanks for the mirific trail. I really enjoyed these vacations, which were relaxing and sporty!

Your team and your horses (especially Mufasa) are fantastic! I really hope to come back soon. My friends and families were impressed by the pictures and some of them already want to come along!! Especially those photos of the beach, the rivers and the gallops. I bet many other friends would want to come along after seeing them! Thanks again,

For the Record: This is a note of thanks and acknowledgement for Rudi's finely honed spirit of adventure and obvious love of the excrutiatingly beautiful, and for Buffalo's art of setting a table with the accoutrements of gourmet dining in the wild while plying us with the charms of "vino tinto".

And, most especially, for the delightful spirt-lead into the gracious arts of the Catalonian culture, for his aplomb, and navigation, and for his well tempered management of six wide ranging and diverse women, and for whose generousity with himself, engaging smile, and warmth, always the gentleman and professional, made our play a reality, for this, I want to thank Jordi. He made us laugh until we cried, and studded our moments with information and delightful repartee. We could not hove known a better time spent without him as our Ride Master. Thank you for allowing us your good company, for the great matches with our horses, and for the introduction to the heart and soul of Catalonia! A World Class Adventure! My friend and I are already planning our next trip to Catalonia.... Herdsmen? Bandits?

Rudi and his team could not have been more gracious, more helpful, or more fun! The scenery was wonderful, the meals superb, and the accommodations charming. How did it seem effortless? I have been riding all my life and I must say how wonderful Rudi's horses are. They are beautiful trained, and team well both with rider and with each other. I hope to return.

Rudi,

I cannot believe that I have been home a week already. Regret that I had to leave the ride early and miss the frauleins gossiping in German!! Please thank the staff for making the ride an enjoyable experience and especially Buffalo for getting me to the bus station and helping me make my connections on the last day .
When you see Lizzie at Mas Roca tell her that I have never had such a good pool partner. maybe we can play again some time .
Continued success with your rides, I will defintely recommend you in the future..

Saludos,
